Pistons interested in Gordon Hayward

The Detroit Pistons have been identified as a “possible trading partner” with the Charlotte Hornets for forward Gordon Hayward. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony dropped that report amid an NBA mock draft blurb in which he predicted Memphis great man Jalen Duren to finish the New York Knicks at number 11. “Detroit Pistons GM Troy Weaver is one of Duren’s biggest fans in the NBA , sources say, and would very much look to target him in a draft night trade if he continues to slide off the board, especially to Charlotte, who has been identified as a potential trading partner for the Pistons in a possible Gordon Hayward deal.

“Pistons GM Troy Weaver is one of Duren’s biggest fans in the NBA, and could very well target him on an overnight trade…especially Charlotte, who has been identified as a potential trading partner for the Pistons in a potential Gordon Hayward .”

Absolutely shocked to find that stretching Nic Batum to give Gordon Hayward nine figures could become prohibitive and lead to asset burning only to save money at a later date. Wait, no I’m not.

Heard an interesting suggestion from @Sam Vecenie on his podcast:
Ayton > Detroit S&T
Hayward > Suns
Trade exception > Charlotte
This makes sense for all teams, it should make a choice here or there – 9:00 am

More about this storyline

According to ESPN’s NBA guru Brian Windhorst, the Hornets aren’t just looking at the prospect of packing Hayward. They also have two first-round picks in the upcoming draft, and it looks like they could use them as leverage in a potential deal: “Keep an eye out for the Charlotte Hornets,” Windhorst said. “Now they have two choices in the middle of the draft: picks 13 and 15. People in the league don’t feel like they’re going to make both choices. They may not even make a choice. But right now they want to make a deal with one of those choices, combine that with one of the salaries they have in-house. Gordon Hayward is one of the names we hear, possibly to offload some cash, possibly to get around the concept, as they try to free up some salary space for Miles Bridges. That is a top free agent for them, they have secured a lot of salary.” -via link points / June 22, 2022
